Hastings, NEB. — As the city of Hastings is hoping to lower their amount of fossil fuels with clean, renewable energy Hastings Utilities provided an update at Monday’s city council meeting on their community solar project.
“Today we got an approval for the rates for our solar field. Excited to get that going that’s kind of the next step before getting it out to the public and show them what we can offer to them,” said Derek Zeisler with Hastings Utilities.
He went on to break down the options that will be available for customers.
“Right now we are going to have a couple of different options. One option will be for the customers to buy the installed panel directly and the other option is they will be able to buy the solar shares so they will be able to buy into the 150 kilowatt hours that month or be able to buy the panel and utilize what that panel produces that month,” Zeisler said.
He goes on to say rates should be available to customers beginning August 12th. They will be soon be launching a website at Hastings.org/solar with all the details.
In the meantime he says they’re hoping to send customers brochures in the mail with more information.
